Our Trip to Colorado | Fall 2011

I’ve finally made myself finish all of my photographs from our trip to Colorado last fall – whew!!! Chris and I decided to drive our Jeep around Colorado. We made an itinerary of the places that we wanted to stop along the way. With the ease of technology we always were able to plan our next stop and where we wanted to stay each day. It was a perfectly structured vacation – we had an overall idea of where we wanted to go but didn’t book anything until we where there. Just in case our plans changed! One plan that changed for us unfortunately was the Jeep trails we were planning to go on. Chris researched to death (if you know my husband, this is NOT surprising) all the Jeep trails in the areas we were going and which ones we wanted to try. Well the problem that we didn’t realize about until we were already in Colorado was that we picked the wrong time of the year to drive them! Oops, minor mistake on our part! We never thought fall would have such heavy snow in the mountains that most all of the trails were closed down for the season. You live and you learn! We stayed optimistic and said “Well, I guess we just have to come out here again then!” I know next time we are coming while the Aspen trees are at their peak, we missed them by a few weeks and from a photographers standpoint that is the best time of the year to visit Colorado.

We left our home a late Saturday night as soon as the Jeep was all packed up – about 11pm – and drove all night through Missouri and Kansas finally entering Colorado around 8:00 am mountain time. Our order of attack was Colorado Springs, Leadville, Denver, Boulder, Estes Park and ending in Fort Collins. Check all of my  images below!
